months ago this week, a top to bottom overhaul of u.s. health care, an overhaul that presidents dating back to teddy roosevelt have contemplated, debated, or attempted. six months ago, it was sign into law by president obama. today as you may have seen live here on cnn, the president talking about provisions of that law that come into force this week. this is the first of that health care bill. it's what the white house calls a patients' bill of rights. he's just about the only democrat who is going to use health and reform in the same sentence because the reason has to do with the calendar. we're 40 days away from the elections where every single house seat and 37 senate seats are up for grabs. voters are split to say the least. 40% of americans favor reform, 56% oppose it. there are some tricks to that poll because the 56% oppose, some oppose because it didn't go far enough. most say it's too liberal, but a sizable chunk says it doesn't go far enough. when we ask which party can handle the issue better, it's a dead heat. all of this forms a backdrop to the president's visit to a fami

recent recession that demonstrates the u.s. is very strong in its reaction to the cheonan incident. they joined at the very beginning in the rescue operations, and also, [unintelligible] -- the were in strong support of the u.s. administration. this is the largest area ever conducted in the caribbean peninsula. -- kirby and peninsula. i might say that this is the reincarnation of the incident that happened between 1977 and 1993. it was a deterrent to north korean leadership and rain that in north korean policies -- north korean policies. one side effect of this is china's reaction. when we conducted this exercise in the wake of the cheonan sinking, the chinese reaction was unusually harsh. i think it has awakened at the international community. it is central in the war, as reflected in the sense of china. china had some objection to this joint exercise. for example, july 15 -- "we formally oppose any foreign militaries placed in the yellow city, undermining china's security." and second also, this was a joint week emphasized by a high- ranking military -- this was a jointly emphasi

this is a letter we got from maxim u.s. we're federal services. experts on appeals. medicare hired us to review this file and decide if the partd plan made the correct decision. we work for medicare. we do not work for part-d plan. we appealed and my wife won wholly. so the administrative law judge process. maxim u.s. has appealed that a decision and they say according to the term medically accepted indication includes only fda uses and those off dated uses supported by citation on one of the listed drugs. more over, medically accepted indication does not including treating physician testimony or proffer of medical efforts showing a drug as prescribed effectively treats the condition for which it's being used. converse easily could have included expert testimony as a source material for determining medically accepted uses if he wanted to do so. instead congress by reference to a drugs fda label and expert opinions in one of several drug. accordingly. medical accept the use is not the same as medically necessary. >> i would like to, we worked on issues like that so. we could be of help to you.

you can use it on current employees, legacy employees so someone decides i want to clean it up. i have someone who has been five or 10 years, i want a legal work force and run their names through e-verify. why not? why not give the employers a tool? why not let them use e hifere verify with a prospective employee with a legitimate job offer. we have that under a drug testing law in iowa. if you show up and you want a job, go through all of the hoops and they can say to you, i have gone through all the hoops, you have to take a drug test before we can put you to work. that's what we do in iowa. no complaints, no lawsuits. and i encourage them to do that. we should be able to provide as employers an illegal-free workplace so modernizing e-verify so it can be used on current legacy employees and with a legitimate job offer is a legitimate thing to do. and the third component we need to do, madam speaker, out of this, is we need to clarify wages and benefits to illegals are not deductible for federal income tax purposes and doing that allows the i.r.s. to run the social security numbers an

had a busy weekend. thanks for joining us. >> we have to go to headlines right away because if you're following the news over the weekend, you know there's a big storm in bermuda. power out right now across bermuda this morning as hurricane igor pounds this island with heavy rain and high winds. the cat one storm came ashore with furious waves and 75-mile-per-hour winds when it passed about 40 miles to the west. now, it's not expected to hit the united states but could kick up dangerous surf and a little rip current. more than 1,000 people have been evacuated now as dangerous wildfires ripped through the state of utah. at least 300 acres are burning around the town of harriman as firefighters struggled to get it under control, the fire started at a nearby national guard base after an artillery training session. soldiers apparently didn't have the manpower or equipment to quickly put out the flames. iran is now suggesting a prisoner swap with the united states after releasing american hiker sarah shourd, iran wants the u.s. now to free eight iranians expected of smuggling weapons te

's deputy political director joining us from washington. so it's called the pledge to america, mark. what's in it? >> well, savannah, there are many components, but among the provisions that they are going to be laying out today, one would be make all the bush tax cuts permanent. another priority for them would hold weekly votes on spending cuts. and then finally, to repeal and replace health care. of course, many of these ideas aren't necessarily new. we've been hearing from republicans for a very long time their desire to repeal and replace health care along with extending the bush tax cuts. but this is a response to democratic charges of where is the beef? what would republicans do if they take back control of congress? and this 21-page document essentially does that. it lays out their ideas, what they would like to accomplish, and their priorities for the next congress. >> all right. mark murray in our washington newsroom. you know, savannah, the interesting thing was the reaction among folks at national review, for instance, or representing the pragmatic ring of the republican party
